Endometriosis Related Conditions

A growing body of research has documented the strong link between endometriosis and other related conditions. These are fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, allergies, and asthma. There are also endometriosis-related autoimmune inflammatory diseases such as thyroid disease, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), Sjögren’s syndrome, Meniere’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis (MS).

Additionally, some studies have linked endometriosis to certain cancers. These include melanoma, breast, and ovarian cancer, as well as a malignant transformation of the disease itself.

There may also be a link between endometriosis and other estrogen-dependent pelvic-related conditions. These can be fibroids and interstitial cystitis. Fibroids are muscular tumors that grow in the wall of the uterus, known as “leiomyoma”. Interstitial cystitis or “endo’s evil twin” is a urinary bladder syndrome. It causes significant pain and urinary frequency and there is diffuse endometriosis throughout the muscular lining of the uterus.
