Thoughts About Endometriosis on Mother’s Day

Thoughts on Mother's Day
Thoughts About Endometriosis on Mother’s Day

As a surgeon who specializes in treating endometriosis, Mother’s Day is bittersweet for me. It is also an emotional day for one in 10 women with the disease.

Like so many things in life, some people take the ability to have a child for granted. Unfortunately and much too often, endometriosis makes women incapable of bearing children.

Those women who were unable to conceive because doctors missed their disease until it was too late, my heart goes out to you.

For those of you who are still struggling with the issue of infertility, my thoughts are with you.

Congratulations to those of you who are mothers because you have been spared this disease or you have received a diagnosis in time and were treated successfully.

Motherhood should be a choice for every woman. Endometriosis robs so many women of that choice.

Help me to make a difference. Talk about this disease. Tell everyone you know about the signs and symptoms. The earlier the diagnosis and treatment, the better the outcome.
