I was diagnosed with endometriosis in April 2010. I didn’t know it at the time, but this was the beginning of a four-year ordeal involving three abdominal surgeries, four hip surgeries, and a rare combination of medical specialties. Three months after endometriosis was diagnosed, an orthopedic surgeon diagnosed me with a congenital condition of the hip joints that causes the cartilage that lines the joint (the labrum) to tears. Successive arthroscopic surgeries were performed to repair, and then replace the cartilage, but only the right hip surgery was successful. For some unknown reason, surgery on the left hip failed twice, due to hyper-inflammation that caused deterioration of the labrum from massive scarring. We did not know why. Desperate to find an answer, I then met with Dr. Marc J. Philippon, a world-renowned hip surgeon at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado for another medical opinion. Incredibly, he had just become aware of a rare, newly-discovered condition in which endometriosis creates scarring on the nerve that supplies the hip. If this was true in my case, it could explain why the left hip surgeries kept failing. Inflammation from endometriosis could have interfered with the healing process of the hip. Dr. Philippon then referred me to Dr. Seckin in New York, one of the world’s top gynecological surgeons, and an expert in endometriosis. A third laparoscopic surgery was performed in March 2014 by Dr. Seckin, and we prayed for a miracle. Lo and behold, Dr. Seckin did find and remove a 16-years of accumulation of Endometriosis that had traveled to deep areas of the body, including the nerve that feeds the hip joint. He was able to find and remove endometriosis that two different doctors in two other surgeries had missed! I am convinced there is no other doctor in the U.S. with the skill and expertise that Dr. Seckin has developed in the deep and thorough removal of endometriosis. Dr. Seckin performed nothing short of a miracle for me, allowing a subsequent third surgery on the left hip to be successful.
With our deepest gratitude, thank you, Dr. Seckin!
